Senator Dockery Writes FDCA Secretary Pelham
Posted by Chuck Welch on May 15, 2008 5:33 PM | Permalink | Comments (0)
Today, Senator Paula Dockery wrote Florida Department of Community Affairs Thomas Pelham to urge the DCA to "conduct an exhaustive evaluation of the potential impacts of the project, without being subjected to pressure from those trying to hurry the process along."
I've included the full text of the letter below. I left in the DCA address in case you want to write your own letter.
May 15, 2008
Thomas G. Pelham, Secretary
Florida Department of Community Affairs
2555 Shumard Oak Boulevard
Tallahassee, FL 32399-2100
Dear Secretary Pelham:
Thank you for your continued involvement in scrutinizing the CSX/Central Florida Commuter Rail deal and for your oversight of the DRI process for the proposed Integrated Logistics Center (ILC) in Winter Haven.
Now that the development of the ILC is no longer tied to the Central Florida Commuter Rail project, it is my hope that the proposed ILC will receive a thorough DRI review. The recent events during the legislative session provide DCA with plenty of breathing room to conduct an exhaustive evaluation of the potential impacts of the project, without being subjected to pressure from those trying to hurry the process along.
As I have stated in the past, there are numerous regional concerns surrounding the development of the ILC and the corresponding increase in train traffic, including: proximity of the ILC to developed residential areas, increased road traffic in areas lacking adequate transportation infrastructure, potential mitigation cost responsibility, infrastructure damage in populated areas, and fire, police, and ambulance related public safety issues. All of these issues should be carefully reviewed as part of a thorough DRI examination.
I look forward to an update from your office on the status of the DRI review. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can provide any assistance to you.
Warm regards,
Paula Dockery
State Senator
