Lake Hollingsworth Drive - Do You Stop?

When traffic control signals are not in place or in operation, the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way, slowing down or stopping if need be to so yield, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk when the pedestrian is upon the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling or when the pedestrian is approaching so closely from the opposite half of the roadway as to be in danger. FS 316.130 (7 - partial)
The law is Florida Statute 316.130 Pedestrian obedience to traffic control devices and traffic regulations.. The crossing is one of many on Lake Hollingsworth Drive. Do you stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk? For that matter, do you obey the 30mph speed limit?

I'm glad you posted something on this. People in cars tend to think they ALWAYS have the right-of-way over pedestrians and bicyclists. Granted, I'd never push the issue because I know the car would win, but still. It's good to have a little reminder once in a while!

1. Yes, I stop for pedestrians.
2. There's a 3O mph speed limit? Oops.
Alternate 2. I consistently stay below 30 when circling the lake on my bike.

I always slowdown or stop for pedestrians crossing the road and always drive slow around Lake Hollingsworth. It's easier to watch the girls that way.

I live on the Lake and yes I do stop for pedestrians, but I can verify that few follow the posted speed limit...Also, the number of cars that feel it necessary to circle the Lake repeatedly while blasting their car radios at top volume is annoying and unnecessary to say the least...I wish the Lakeland PD would spend a Friday night enforcing the noise ordinance around the Lake
